Dr. Sanjay K. Kholwadwala
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Sanjay Kholwadwala, MD, FACEP, FAAEM, brings more than 29 years of emergency department experience and a strong background in critical care to his leadership role. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Southern California and the University of New Mexico. He went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and completed his emergency medicine residency at the University of Illinois. He is board-certified in emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and is a Fellow of both the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
Before serving as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Albuquerque ER & Hospital, he spent over 18 years as the Medical Director at St. Joseph/Lovelace Hospital. In this role, he directed emergency services at Lovelace. Colleagues describe him as a team-spirited, disciplined, caring, and dedicated clinician with extensive administrative experience.
A native of Albuquerque, Dr. Kholwadwala now steps into his new role as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Albuquerque ER & Hospital—the city’s first micro-hospital, and the only one owned and operated by physicians. In this role, he oversees clinical strategy and patient operations, championing short wait times and an outstanding, concierge-level emergency experience. His commitment to elevating local healthcare standards has been recognized multiple times by his peers in Albuquerque The Magazine’s annual “Top Docs” issue.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Kholwadwala is a proud father of two who enjoys collecting classic cars, traveling, hiking, and spending quality time with his family.
