March 30 is National Doctors’ Day, a time to recognize the heroic measures doctors take to keep their communities safe and healthy. We would like to personally thank the remarkable physicians at Albuquerque ER & Hospital!

Our incredible team of emergency physicians go above and beyond to put our patients first. We appreciate each of you and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the long hours you endure, the sacrifices you make, and the courageous work you do for our community. Get to Know Our Extraordinary Doctors

Dr. Sanjay K. Kholwadwala 

Dr. Kholwadwala is the CEO of Albuquerque ER & Hospital, the first micro-hospital in Albuquerque and the only one to be owned and operated by physicians. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Southern California and University of New Mexico and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine. He obtained a Board Certification in Emergency Medicine through the American Board of Emergency Medicine.  With over 22 years of experience working in the Emergency Department, he is an expert in providing critical care.  Dr. Kholwadwala has been a Medical Director for 21 years at St. Joseph/Lovelace. He has been nominated as “Top docs” for Albuquerque the Magazine numerous times and he was voted best doctor by the ER nurses at Lovelace. Dr. Kholwadwala is a disciplined, caring, and dedicated clinician and he’s a proud father of two wonderful kids.     

Fun fact: Dr. Kholwadwala likes to collect classic cars, travel, and spend time with family. 

Dr. Derek DeTemple 

Dr. DeTemple received his medical degree from A. T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and has been in practice for over 20 years. Dr. DeTemple came to Albuquerque to work in January of 2016. He moved from Mesa, Arizona, and quickly fell in love with the city, the climate, and the outdoor recreational opportunities. He is a skilled, board-certified emergency medicine physician, and he likes to spend time with his wife and children when he’s not at the hospital. 

Fun Fact: In his free time, Dr. DeTemple is an avid runner and has run over 40 marathons, including the Boston Marathon—11 times!

Dr. Victor Sherman 

Dr. Victor Sherman has over 15 years of experience in the Medicine field. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in Biochemistry. He attended medical school at the Universidad de Autonoma de Guadalajara, Mexico, and did his residency at New York Medical College Metropolitan Hospital EM program, New York City, where he was the chief resident. He is board-certified in Emergency Medicine and has practiced in Northern NM since the completion of his residency. He is co-founder of Railyard Urgent Care in Santa Fe and has worked in the ER departments of local hospitals. He is known for his calm, professional demeanor, and compassion for his patients.  

Fun Fact: He enjoys being active and can often be found outdoors climbing, skiing, or mountain biking. 

Dr. Timothy Bajema 

Dr. Timothy Bajema is a board-certified emergency medicine physician in Albuquerque by the American Board of Emergency Medical Services. He received his medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and has been practicing for more than 25 years.

Fun Fact: He speaks Spanish, Arabic, and English.
