FAQS
We are open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. We never close, not even on holidays!

Yes, we offer medical care for patients of all ages, including infants, young children, and adults, regardless of their medical condition. We have exam rooms for our pediatric patients, specially designed with their comfort in mind, with wall art, stuffed animals, and toys.
No appointment is needed at Albuquerque ER & Hospital. In the case of a medical emergency, we encourage you to come in immediately. Also, if you are sick or injured and cannot get in to see your primary care doctor, our team of expert physicians is here to provide you with exceptional care.
We can provide an estimated cost of care by completing a free basic medical screening before any treatment, but the actual cost of care depends on your condition and the medical services provided.
In comparison to urgent care centers, we are open 24/7, whereas urgent care clinics are only open 8-12 hours a day. Emergency rooms, like Albuquerque ER & Hospital, are also equipped with advanced radiology equipment and lab testing capabilities. Urgent care clinics usually only have limited laboratory and radiology testing. Also, our hospital is staffed with board-certified physicians and ER-trained registered nurses, and urgent care clinics are typically staffed by physician’s assistants or nurse practitioners.
As your neighborhood ER and hospital, we have much shorter wait times than typical emergency rooms - little to no wait, actually. Albuquerque ER & Hospital doesn’t take patients from 911 ambulance services, eliminating overcrowding in the waiting room and allowing our expert staff to see you more promptly and efficiently.
Our hospital offers inpatient observational services for patients who need to be admitted for extended care. If you require a transfer to another facility for care, our staff can arrange a direct transfer to an inpatient room at the hospital of your choosing, bypassing the hospital's emergency department.
Our diagnostic lab is CLIA and COLA-certified and allows for advanced testing that provides invaluable information. Your results are processed while you wait, allowing for diagnostics in 15-30 minutes.
Our radiology department has advanced medical equipment, including an X-ray machine, MRI, CT scanner, and bedside Ultrasound equipment. Patients are given written radiology reports and CDs to share results with primary care physicians or specialists.
For outpatient services, the following documentation must be presented:
- The medical necessity of the outpatient service in a physician's office visit note or progress note
- A signed and dated physician's order for the outpatient services. Patients without a written order will receive an emergency room medical screening first (emergency room charges will apply).

Billing & Insurance Questions
We accept all commercial insurance for medical emergencies. Currently, we do not accept government-funded insurance plans such as Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, or CHIP.
New Mexico law requires your insurance carrier to pay for your emergency care, whether the emergency room is “in-network” or “out-of-network." The state of New Mexico empowers you to use “a prudent layperson standard” when considering what constitutes an emergency.
The emergency medical needs of our patients come first. We offer cash pay options for patients who do not have insurance and are deemed “non-emergent” by our emergency physicians.
You will be asked to pay your emergency room copay at the end of your visit.
Your ER visit will be processed by our billing department at Nutex Health and sent to your insurance company. We accept all commercial insurance, cash payments, checks, or major credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.
